2026 Five-Year Harvest Plan

January 27, 2026

As presented at the 2025 Annual Open House, Squamish Community Forest has prepared an updated five-year harvest plan, for the period beginning 2026. Five-year plans are prepared on a rolling basis, as new information becomes available and the harvest plan outlook is further developed.

The most near-term harvest plan is for a group of blocks in the Lava flow area, which were presented for public input in 2025 (LAVA 1, 4, 5 9, 11,  and 13). LAVA 2 and 6 are in the planning stages and will be added to the near term harvest plan, pending Nation and government approvals. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback. Originally planned to be harvested in late 2025, timing has been moved back due to a downturn in markets. Pending market recovery these will likely be harvested in late 2026.

Also presented at the November 2025 open house and included on the 2026 five-year plan map are a series of pre-commercial thinning areas between Garibaldi Park Road and Ring Creek North FSR. The areas and project goals were identified through a collaborative project, co-led by the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) Rights and Title and Cultural teams and the Squamish Community Forest management team. Goals for the thinning prescriptions include nurturing cultural values, reducing wildfire risk, and improving future stand structure. The work supports and contributes to implementation of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Stséḵtseḵ Forestry Framework. Since these treatments are planned in young stands with only the smaller overly dense trees to be removed, implementation of these thinning projects is funding dependent. Pending funding the goal is to complete the activities in later 2026 or 2027.
