Cheekye Hauling Part 2 – Notice of logging truck traffic weeks of August 12 and 19, 2024
August 13, 2024
Starting August 14, Squamish Community Forest will be hauling decked timber from the Cheekye Debris Barrier project’s riparian clearing area, as part of that clearing is within the Community Forest.
It is estimated there will be about 4-7 loaded logging trucks/day for about 5-7 days (weekdays only) starting August 14, 2024.
As the Mamquam Ring Road is still not available, hauling will follow the same general route as earlier this year, including travel through Garibaldi Highlands, with one change in that trucks will take the new cut-off route from the northern section of Mashiter across to Ring Creek North FSR (near Ed’s Access), thus avoiding a heavy recreation use area. Otherwise, hauling from the Cheekye basin will follow existing logging roads (Ring Creek North FSR – Garibaldi Park Road – upper Mamquam Road – Village Drive – University Boulevard – The Boulevard – Highlands Way South and Mamquam road to reach Hwy 99. From there trucks take Hwy 99 south to log sort facilities off Mamquam FSR and/or Cleveland/Loggers Lane.
Trucks will be following strict safety protocols including speed limits.
Residents, visitors and recreationists are asked to keep an eye out and be aware of logging truck traffic. Trail users please slow down, watch for and give way to vehicle traffic when merging onto roads.
Squamish Community Forest thanks you for your patience while this work is completed.
